Theme: New Year’s Resolution – Live in the Moment
Author: KayakGuy
From getting into better shape to eating better to losing weight and stopping smoking, the list of New Year’s resolutions goes on and on. But I learned a long time ago that those other things fall into place much easier with the right attitude. Too many people think about everything else except what they’re doing when they’re doing it. They dwell on the past, dread the future and ignore the moment.
For example, I’m a big fan of recreation to help relieve stress. For me it’s paddling my inflatable kayak down a scenic lake or stream. I’m also a golfer. When I’m ‘recreating’, that’s what I do. I stay ‘in the moment’ and enjoy what I’m doing. It is difficult, but I try to forget about the work that’s waiting for me later or the problems I had yesterday. Don’t go paddling and miss the beautiful views. Take them in. Don’t swing your golf club and think about paying your bills. No telling where the ball will go. Life is a great adventure and the best time to live it is “now”.
I have three resolutions that I renew every year. Let the past rest. Work towards the future. Live in the moment. You can use them if you’d like.
