We all make ‘em. We all break ‘em. New Year’s resolutions! It’s always nice to look ahead at something new, whether it’s a new year, new job or maybe even a new kayak with the hope for good, positive, prosperous results. It’s human nature and it’s a good thing. If we didn’t have that optimism, heading into the unknown, we’d surely be lost. And even if things don’t turn out the way we hope, the most important thing is just that … hope!

I’m not getting a new kayak this year, but I am resolving to enjoy the one I have more than I did last year. There’s a few other resolutions on my list, but this kayaking resolution is near the top. Kayaking is good for me. It’s hard to beat the experience of paddling quietly on calm water as it reflects the brilliant scenery of the majestic outdoors. While nature inspires and excites, it also has a way of relaxing you like nothing else can. It’s pretty special!

My wife and I took our inflatable kayak to several new spots this year in Tennessee and Missouri. We are planning at least two new areas to paddle in 2011 in Michigan and another state yet to be decided. We’re looking forward to making these trips even better than our previous ones. I hope you, too, can get out and enjoy some excellent paddling adventures.

And everyday in 2011, whether you’re in your kayak or not …. savor the good memories, try to forget the bad ones, and live with hope as you head into the new year, making more great memories. Never forget that today is the first day of the rest of your life. Happy New Year!
