Theme: Kayak Fitness – Hamstring Stretch

You might think that the only important stretches you do before kayaking are for the upper body, but the hamstrings and other larger lower body muscles are also an important part of a full kayak paddle stroke. Loosen up the hamstrings as well as the glutes and lower back muscles by standing with your feet about 6 to 8 inches apart. While keeping your legs as straight as possible, bend forward and touch your hands to your feet. This is a stretch that takes some flexibility. Although you may not be able to do it as well as you’d like in the beginning, eventually you can get those muscles conditioned to execute it properly and get the full benefit from the stretch.
