Glamping at the Outdoor Retail Show
We just returned home from Salt Lake City and the Outdoor Retail Show. We had a great time and saw tons of great new outdoor products! One of the things we got to do while we were there was go Glamping! Have you ever heard of or had a chance to go Glamping? (It’s Glamorous Camping.) Barebones Tentsmade an offer to nearly 50 people to join them on a Glamping evening before the Outdoor Demo day at beautiful Pineview Reservoir about an hour from Salt Lake City. We were lucky enough to be chosen to join them.
We got a spacious tent with a comfy cot, sleeping bag and nice lighting. The best part was getting to talk with the other Glampers, great food and entertainment.
We arrived early evening and there were several other people relaxing under a pop-up tent so we got a “cold one or two” and sat down with them and got to know each other and what business they were involved with. We met people from all over the country, Florida, Michigan, Ohio and even the Salt Lake City area.
Of course, the food was delicious: BBQ ribs, chicken wings and brisket along with delicious baked beans, cole slaw and cornbread. The evening wouldn’t have been complete without being able to make S’mores, but Glamping style, of course. There were the usual marshmallows and graham crackers, but there was a delicious dark chocolate. If you wanted to be adventurous you could make your s’more with one of the flavored marshmallows, orange, bourbon, or my favorite, key lime. If graham crackers seemed a bit dry, there were honey Stingers to take their place. I haven’t had a s’more in ages, and these are definitely going to be the ones any future s’mores are going to have to live up to!
Once everyone had finished eating, the evening’s entertainment started, a duo with stand-up base and guitar. They didn’t get to finish playing however, as a thunderstorm came rolling into the area. The wind kicked up and we headed back to our tent to wait out the storm.
We stayed in the tent for only a short while, until we heard all the Ooooo’s and Aaaahhhh’s coming from outside as the lightning made a fantastic light show in the distance over the lake and mountains. Seeing that everyone seemed to still be outside, we went back outside and watched the “fireworks” until the rain finally made it to us. By that time it was getting late so we made our way back to our tent and just managed to get settled when the heavy downpour hit. By the way, the BareBones tents held up wonderfully throughout the wind and rain.
We had a good night’s sleep and woke early to a beautiful, sunny morning. And the best part was that we were already at the location for the demo day so we got an early start checking out the kayaks, SUP’s and other new products at demo day.
Overall, I guess things could have been a bit more “glamorous”, but the entire experience was worth checking out. If you ever get the chance to go Glamping … be sure to GO FOR IT!
